Money - keep it in your pocket or in a safe, but not in your head

There is no denying that money is necessary in this life. But those who wish to follow the path of spirituality must be very careful about their relationship with money. For money is a dangerous temptation, and if you are unaware of the danger, you can let the idea of money, your desire for money cloud the sky within you. It can become like a screen or curtain that prevents the light of heaven from entering you. You should keep your money in your pocket, in a drawer, in a safe―anywhere but in your head. Otherwise money will become your master and you its slave. If you are the master and you make your money obey you, you can do a lot of good with it. But if it is your master it will urge you to oppress, harm and do away with others, and in obeying it you will be forced to break many laws. Only a genuine spiritual Master can possess all the gold in the world without ever doing any harm, because he is master both of himself and of his gold. So if you want to advance along the spiritual path, you must think carefully about your relationship with money, otherwise it is pointless to talk of spirituality.
