Spiritual ties - if they are severed between human beings it leads to war
Human beings have severed the ties that bind them to each other, and this rupture goes by the name of hatred, hostility, rancour and revenge. You will say: ‘But the ties haven’t been severed, because they’re at each other’s throats.’ True, on the physical plane the ties are not cut, but I am talking of the spiritual bond. It is this bond that has been broken, and the breaking of it is called war. Of course, there is a certain bond between enemies at war. Look at two people who detest each other and come to blows: you might even say that they have never been closer—but it is in order to slaughter each other! And others, who may be thousands of miles apart, can be bound by very strong ties. When I speak of ties or bonds, I am talking about the kind of connection a mechanic or an electrician would understand. Suppose you have a machine that will not work because half an inch of wire is missing: you replace the missing wire, and there you are! The current is restored and your machine works. It all depends on the connection.
