Money - it is preferable to make very little and still enjoy things

Do not be too concerned about making money, or you will be obliged to sacrifice all that is most beautiful within you to that endeavour. And even if you do manage to accumulate a fortune, all the joys and pleasures you obtain will be wasted, because you will have lost your capacity for enjoyment. You will have everything you desire, but you will be unhappy because you will have destroyed that something which gives the most exquisite flavour to every experience. This is true unhappiness: to be able to obtain everything, to taste everything, and yet to experience no enjoyment. Of course, it is painful to live in a state of deprivation, but if you have to choose between these two situations—possessing everything without the ability to appreciate it all, or the opposite, having very little but with the capacity for enjoyment—then choose the latter. For then the smallest thing that comes your way will make you shout for joy.
