Blessing - white magic; becoming conscious of its significance

Many people question whether the custom of giving a blessing, which is still an important part of religious rites, has any effect. It all depends on the person giving the blessing and the person receiving it. The word ‘bless’ means to say good things, in the sense of saying words that confer well-being. Thus, a true blessing is an act of white magic. But to accomplish this white magic, the person must be pure and disinterested, someone who has attained self-mastery, while the person receiving the blessing must at least be receptive to it, and willing to improve and work for the good. Of course, if these conditions are not met, the blessing will have no effect. Nevertheless, it is a good thing to continue the custom of giving a blessing, in the hope that one day, human beings will become conscious of its significance. Then, the words and gestures of a blessing will be genuinely effective.
