Youth - stress the value of the heart over and above that of the intellect

Ever since they realized that the intellect possesses great power, human beings have cultivated this faculty, and that is why there are now so many learned and intellectually developed people in the world. That is all very well, but the intellect will not save humanity. On the contrary: it is not the nature of the intellect to be sympathetic, tolerant or generous. Instead, people with a highly developed intellect usually try to deceive, dominate and subjugate others. We see this so often! Look at how these intellectually gifted people behave, how critical, contemptuous and deceitful they can be. You might say, ‘That is because they are evil by nature.’ No, their education is at fault because it stresses the value of the intellect over and above that of the heart, thereby reinforcing people’s lower nature. Young people can use everything they have been taught to serve their lower nature. We supply them with weapons without providing any ideal for self-improvement. So, naturally, they use these means to satisfy their basest appetites. When will we finally decide to give them the kind of knowledge that will enable them to work on their lower nature in order to control it?
