How do we keep from losing what we have gained? When you embrace the spiritual life, you set aside time to pray, to meditate and to read philosophical and mystical books, which give you a glimpse of the most profound truths. Your heart fills with love, your mind is enlightened, and the meaning of life is finally clear to you. But after these moments of intense life, at times you give way to perfectly ordinary preoccupations, and you lose the benefits of the work you have done. So pay attention, and above all begin to be vigilant in your conversations. Try to speak only about subjects that are constructive. Speak only positive words which will give others courage, a better vision of things and the desire to advance on the path of light. Words are seeds, and seeds grow. They can produce flowers and fruits, or thorny, poisonous plants.
